30 things before 30: Looking Back and Dreaming Ahead

Updated: Mar 5

Approaching 30 feels like reaching a big milestone, a moment where I find myself caught between looking back at my achievements and eagerly anticipating the adventures that lie ahead. As I begin on this journey, it's the perfect time for me to reflect on the accomplishments that have shaped my life and the dreams that continue to dance on the horizon. Let me share a glimpse into 30 goals I set for myself back in 2018, with a nod to what's still to come.

  1. Marry the Love of My Life: Finding a life partner brings unparalleled joy. I made the best decision ever by marrying Yousef when I was 26.

  2. Make My Mama Proud: Making my Mama proud is a timeless achievement. Reflecting on the moments that brought smiles to my mother's face, I wish she could be here to see everything in my life. I miss you Mama!

  3. Own a Cat: Having a pet was a big wish of mine, and in 2022, I'm thrilled that we got our dream cat, Penelope. She's the love of our lives and the absolute best!

  4. Bring Family to Canada: Wanting to see my family here, although I haven't brought them all, having two of my aunts visit me in 2023 was heartwarming.

  5. Travel to New York with My Bestie: In 2023, I finally reunited with my bestie from NZ after six long years. We explored New York City together, creating lasting memories.

  6. Learn a New Language: Language is a bridge to understanding different cultures. Reflecting on the challenges and triumphs of learning a new language, and can you guess which language I learned?

  7. Visit Cindy in LA: Friendship knows no distance. I'll share the anecdotes of reconnecting with my soul sister in the City of Angels, exploring the vibrant culture, and creating memories that transcend miles.

  8. See the Pope in Person: Witnessing the Pope in person was awe-inspiring. Attending a papal event is a spiritually enriching experience, reflecting on the significance and personal reflections it stirred within me.

  9. See Teotihuacan: Stepping into the ancient world of Teotihuacan was a journey through time. I'll share the awe-inspiring tales of exploring the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon, and how it connected me to history.

  10. Visit the Philippines: After 6 years, I revisited the Philippines in January of this year. I have not had a chance to go back home ever since I moved to Canada. Returning to my roots holds a special place in my heart.

  11. Travel Solo: Embarking on solo adventures is a testament to self-discovery and independence. Reflecting on the places explored, the challenges faced, and the newfound strength gained.

  12. See Yousef's Hometown: Exploring the hometown of someone close unveils layers of their identity. I'll share the tales of discovering the roots of a friend, the shared laughter, and the deepened connection that came from experiencing his world. I'm glad I was able to see my husband's hometown, which is in Ilam, Iran.

  13. Study Law: The pursuit of knowledge is a noble endeavor. Reflecting on the challenges and victories of delving into the intricate world of law and how it has shaped my perspective on justice and fairness.

  14. See Niagara Falls: The grandeur of Niagara Falls is a sight to behold. I'll share the mesmerizing tales of witnessing the powerful cascade of water, the breathtaking views, and the emotions stirred by nature's majesty.

  15. Try Authentic Kebab in Iran: Culinary adventures add a flavorful dimension to travel. I'll reflect on the tastes and aromas of authentic kebabs in Iran, the cultural exchange through food, and the friendships forged over shared meals.

  16. Our Lady of Guadalupe Pilgrimage: Mexico was awesome, but this was the highlight of it. Seeing the miraculous tilma in person was definitely a moment for me.

  17. Make Peace with My Past: Personal growth often involves making peace with the past. I'll reflect on the transformative journey of self-forgiveness, healing, and the liberation that comes from embracing the present.

  18. Get a Tattoo: Tattoos are often markers of personal stories. Although I got a temporary tattoo of my Husband’s name in Arabic, I am still crossing this off my list! Next Chapter: Pending and Ongoing Adventures

  19. See Celia Cruz's Hometown: Connecting with musical legends transcends time and space. I want to experience and explore the roots of Celia Cruz, one of my favorite Latina singers, the rhythms that echo through her hometown, and the vibrancy of Cuban culture.

  20. Have a Healthy Lifestyle: Prioritizing health is an ongoing journey. Hopefully I get to achieve this soon!

  21. Buy a House: Owning a house is a major goal for me. Throughout my life, my mother and I never had a place to call our own, so making this dream come true, even when she is not around anymore, is an essential part of my 30 before 30 list.

  22. Hike an Ultimate Trail: Embrace the call of the wild and share the tales of conquering an ultimate hiking trail, the breathtaking landscapes, and the resilience discovered within.

  23. Visit Basque Country: As part Basque, it is a goal to see the Basque Country, a place where my roots are from. Cultural exploration continues with a visit to Basque Country. I would love immersing myself in the unique traditions, cuisine, and landscapes of this distinct region.

  26. Move to Spain: Be it a month or a year, I just want to live the experience in Spain. Moving to a new country is an adventurous leap. Adapting to the Spanish way of life, discovering new cultures, and embracing the adventures that come with making a foreign land feel like home.

  27. Learn How to Drive: I know, I know, I'm almost 30 and don't know how to drive, I have a phobia in driving, but I am now willing to try again.

  28. Weekend in Vegas: The vibrant lights of Las Vegas beckon for a weekend escape. A part of my list for sure!

  29. Go to Disneyland: I have never been to any Disneyland, and even if I had so many chances of going to Disneyland, I told myself I will not go there without Yousef.

  30. Visit The Eiffel Tower: Classic! Who does not want to be in the city of love with their significant other?

Looking back at the 30 goals achieved and the adventures still to come, life is a mix of experiences, dreams, and the courage to go after them. Ready for the next part of the journey with excitement and an open heart. Here's to the next 30 and beyond!
